The view from across Waveland Avenue is no longer a ticketed ballpark experience. A federal judge has ruled that a rooftop business positioned opposite Wrigley Field cannot sell admission for fans to watch Chicago Cubs games from its property.
The decision cuts directly into one of the unusual traditions surrounding the Cubs’ home park, where nearby rooftops have long offered sightlines into Wrigley Field. Under the ruling, however, that particular business cannot turn those views into paid game access.
For the Cubs, it is a home-field matter that reaches beyond the gates and the box office. Wrigley Field’s neighborhood has always been part of the game-day picture, from the bleachers to the buildings beyond the outfield, but the judge’s decision draws a clear line on who may sell a seat to watch the action.
