Ferran Torres stepped into the Classique under the Marseille lights and made his chance count, scoring Paris Saint-Germain’s opening goal in a 2-1 win on Sunday. The forward had begun on the bench, but insisted afterwards that selection status mattered less than delivering when called upon in one of the season’s defining fixtures.

PSG left Marseille with a victory that Torres described as important both for the squad and for its supporters. He said the team had expected a difficult contest and had given everything to secure the result.

Asked what explanation Luis Enrique had given for naming him among the substitutes, Torres played down the issue. For him, the key was contributing once he entered the contest rather than focusing on who starts.
“It does not matter whether you start or not,” he said. “What matters is giving everything for the team when you get on the pitch and trying to help it.”
Torres has made a sharp start to the season in front of goal, registering seven goals from eight shots across all competitions. He offered a simple explanation for that conversion rate: keep taking opportunities.
“You have to take your chance,” he said. “Sometimes you are fortunate and score, sometimes you do not. The only thing to do is keep trying.”
Fine margins decide the Classique
Torres felt the match turned on efficiency. Marseille forward Neal Maupay had two major opportunities without finding the net, while PSG eventually broke through after creating more danger at the beginning of the second half.

He also rejected the idea that one win alone marked the true beginning of PSG’s season. “We are improving with every match,” he said. “We have to keep moving forward and keep working in training.”
Support felt before the whistle
For Torres, the noise around the Classique had already begun on Saturday at the Campus, where PSG supporters attended training to encourage the players. He said the atmosphere there had felt even stronger than inside the stadium the following day, although Marseille still provided a powerful setting for his first Classique.
“It is a huge match in France,” he said. “I felt an even bigger atmosphere at the Campus the day before, when our supporters came to back us in training. There was also a great atmosphere here, and we won.”
