Paris had its familiar edge on the night of Le Classique, but it was Ferran Torres who supplied the early lift for PSG against Olympique de Marseille. Introduced from the bench, the Spanish forward headed the hosts in front with a crisp finish in the 65th minute, setting his side on the way to a win that was eventually secured by Marquinhos after Marseille had drawn level.
The goal continued an extraordinary opening stretch for the 25-year-old from Foios. Torres now has seven goals this season despite appearing in only six matches, a return carrying particular weight for a Paris side still searching for rhythm in its domestic campaign.
“We have to keep going,” Torres said afterwards. “We need to train again and again. We created quite a few chances, but we lacked accuracy and that is something we have to improve.”
His finishing has made him a reference point inside the squad. Vitinha praised the former Barcelona player’s sharpness, saying: “I hope he keeps this up, he is flying. We all have to do everything possible to reach that kind of efficiency. We are very happy to have him with us.”
Luis Enrique also highlighted the forward’s movement and current confidence. “Ferran Torres is in incredible form,” the PSG coach said. “He is particularly strong through the middle, always making runs to get free.”
Torres will leave Paris on Tuesday to join Spain’s national-team camp. The world champion is due to prepare for Nations League fixtures against England, Croatia twice, and the Czech Republic.
