Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League night against Barcelona opened with a horror-film tableau in the stands, and the display could now bring UEFA scrutiny.
Just before kick-off at the Parc des Princes, the Collectif Ultras Paris unveiled a huge tifo depicting Leatherface, the blood-covered character from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Wearing PSG’s classic Hechter shirt, the figure was shown using a chainsaw on Barcelona’s blue, red and yellow crest.
The scene, staged only days before Halloween, was presented as a Parisian take on the cult film. It made an immediate visual impact inside the stadium, but Barcelona’s hierarchy reportedly considered the display both violent and offensive.
Barcelona expected to refer display to UEFA
Barcelona are set to raise the matter with UEFA, which could examine whether disciplinary action is warranted against PSG. Any possible sanction remains uncertain at this stage.
The Paris ultras have previously used cinema-inspired imagery for major European occasions. In October 2023, the group displayed an oversized recreation of Jean-Paul Belmondo holding a gun, based on the poster for the French film Le Professionnel.
PSG deliver on the pitch
There was no disorder during the match itself. PSG went on to beat Barcelona 4-2 in an entertaining contest, ensuring the evening ended with a significant European victory for the home side despite the controversy surrounding the pre-match tifo.
