Paris has offered Ferran Torres a fast, bright beginning after his summer move from Barcelona, even if the Valencia-born forward admits that life beyond the pitch has been less straightforward. At 26, he has arrived in Luis Enrique’s side with seven goals from his first six appearances, finding an immediate connection with the coach he describes as his “footballing father”.
The more ordinary details of relocation have been the difficult part. “It is hard,” Torres said of leaving one city for another at such speed. “One day you are here, and the next you are packing your bags.” He joked that Pedri was the one person he could not bring with him from Barcelona.
French lessons are now part of his settling-in process, though Torres conceded that the language has not come easily in its first weeks. In the dressing room, he has found familiar Spanish company in Fabián Ruiz and Dro Fernández, while the wider adjustment continues in a Paris squad shaped by Luis Enrique.
A decisive start in Paris
Torres has started three matches so far and has already supplied several of the early landmarks of his PSG spell. He opened his account with two goals against Rennes, then struck a hat-trick versus Slovan Bratislava. Further goals came against Brest and Olympique de Marseille.
His Marseille contribution carried particular weight. Introduced from the bench in the French classic, Torres scored the opening goal as PSG claimed a 2-1 victory. The champions’ domestic start has nevertheless been uneven: Luis Enrique’s team sit sixth in Ligue 1 after two wins, two draws and one defeat.
Asked about the Ballon d’Or, Torres avoided making a direct prediction. “The award should go to whoever deserves it; it is not up to me,” he said, before making clear that a Spanish winner would be welcome. Six Spaniards are included among the 30 nominees: Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Marc Cucurella, Rodri, Fabián Ruiz and Torres himself.
