Enzo Le Fée’s difficult Roman chapter has given way to a far brighter period in England, where the former Roma midfielder has committed his future to Sunderland by signing a contract extension running until 2031.
The Frenchman arrived in the capital in the summer of 2024, stepping into a Roma season marked by instability on and off the pitch. The club changed manager three times, its chief executive departed, and Claudio Ranieri was again called upon to steady the situation. In that unsettled environment, Le Fée struggled to find continuity and made only six appearances during the opening half of the 2024-25 campaign.
His move to Sunderland in January proved decisive. Le Fée became a central figure as the club secured promotion to the Premier League and then reached the Europa League places, finding the regular role and confidence that had eluded him in Italy.
A longer future in Sunderland
The new agreement formalises a bond that has quickly grown strong between player and club. Sunderland supporters have embraced Le Fée, while the midfielder has found a setting in which he feels fully at home.
“I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Sunderland,” Le Fée said after putting pen to paper. “From the moment I arrived, I felt the supporters’ passion and the ambition throughout the club. I have experienced some wonderful moments here.”
He believes the progress already made can be the foundation for more. “We have achieved something special together over the past seasons, but I feel this is only the beginning. I have settled in completely and I am excited to keep developing, compete at the highest level and help the team continue to grow.
