François Letexier Appointed to Referee Marseille-PSG Classique

Sunday night at the Vélodrome will place François Letexier at the centre of French football’s sharpest fixture. The 37-year-old has been appointed to referee Marseille’s Ligue 1 meeting with Paris Saint-Germain, the final match of round five, kicking off at 20:45.

Letexier will oversee his fourth Classique between OM and PSG. Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni have been named as his assistant referees, while Marc Bollengier will serve as fourth official.

The video operation will be handled by Bastien Dechepy and Wilfried Bien, who will be on VAR duty for the match.

The move

The appointment gives Letexier another high-pressure Marseille-Paris assignment after three previous encounters involving the clubs. His record in the fixture includes victories for both sides and one particularly contentious night in the south of France.

The French season around it

Letexier refereed Marseille’s 2-1 win over PSG in the Coupe de France round of 16 in February 2023, when Igor Tudor was in charge of OM.

He had also taken charge of PSG’s 2-1 league victory against Marseille at the Parc des Princes in April 2022.

His most recent Classique came at the Vélodrome in October 2024, when PSG won 3-0. That game brought debate after Letexier dismissed Marseille midfielder Amine Harit after 20 minutes for a high boot that caught Marquinhos in the chest.
