Saint-Denis stages a decisive Nations League evening as France welcome Belgium with first place in Group A1 at stake. The hosts begin the match at 20:45 with seven points, holding a one-point advantage over the Red Devils after four rounds of the campaign.
The margin was created in Brussels a week ago, when Michael Olise struck in the 88th minute to give France a narrow victory over their nearest challengers. Belgium arrive in the Parisian suburbs needing a response, but without two central figures in Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans, both suspended after reaching the card limit.
Zidane plans France rotation
France coach Zinedine Zidane has indicated that his side will not simply repeat the team that won in Belgium. With this being the squad’s fourth fixture, he intends to spread the workload through his group.
“There will definitely be changes,” Zidane said. “It is our fourth game, so there is no need to take unnecessary risks. We also have to involve everyone.”
The French have the immediate advantage in the section, but Belgium remain close enough that the result at the Stade de France can reshape the standings.
Belgium lose De Bruyne and Tielemans
Mark van Bommel must manage the trip without De Bruyne, who scored twice in Belgium’s match against Turkey, and midfielder Tielemans. Their absences remove experience and creativity from a visiting side seeking to overturn last week’s late defeat.
Zidane was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial exit from the Portugal national setup. The Frenchman spoke warmly of a player he coached for three seasons at Real Madrid.
“Hats off to Cristiano,” Zidane said. “He helped me win extraordinary trophies. I was fortunate to coach him, and his career deserves recognition. What he achieved was exceptional.”
During their time together in Madrid, Zidane and Ronaldo won three consecutive Champions League titles among nine trophies in total.
