France U21s Lose Bahoya and Versini for Switzerland Qualifier

France’s under-21 side will close their Euro 2027 qualifying campaign without Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Giovani Versini after both players failed to recover from injuries sustained against Luxembourg.

Quick facts

  • France face Switzerland on Tuesday at 19:00 in their final Euro Under-21 qualifying fixture.
  • Jean-Mattéo Bahoya has an ankle problem, while Giovani Versini is nursing a leg injury.
  • Joane Gadou has also left the squad after his red card against Luxembourg.
  • No replacements have been called up by coach Gérald Baticle.
  • France have already secured first place in Group C and qualification for Euro 2027.

Bahoya, the Leeds forward, and Brest attacker Versini were hurt during Saturday’s victory over Luxembourg. Neither has recovered sufficiently to be available for the trip against Switzerland.

Bahoya arrived at the camp after scoring in France’s 2-0 win over Estonia last week. Versini made his contribution against Luxembourg, supplying the assist for France’s opening goal.

Gadou was sent off in that Luxembourg match and, with suspension ruling him out on Tuesday, has been released to Borussia Dortmund. The three departing players will not be replaced.

The final qualifier carries no consequence for France’s position in Group C. Baticle’s team are guaranteed to finish top and have already booked their place at the 2027 European Under-21 Championship.

The tournament will be staged in Serbia and Albania from 16 June to 3 July.
