Franco Baresi Tribute to Be Restored Outside Casa Milan on Saturday

Franco Baresi’s image is set to return outside Casa Milan, a small restoration of memory beside the club’s headquarters after a tribute to the former captain was vandalised.

A new tribute for Baresi

  1. Two Sundays ago, the paste-up created by street artist Luca Rosada, known as Lucas Street Art, was damaged outside Casa Milan.
  2. Rosada responded with a personal initiative to replace the ruined work rather than leave the space empty.
  3. On Saturday 10 October, he will install a new artwork dedicated to Baresi, with work expected to begin at about 9.30am.
  4. The installation is likely to take around two hours in front of the Milan headquarters.

The new piece will not simply reproduce the original. Rosada plans a larger work, made from several sheets, showing Baresi smiling in Milan’s red and black colours.

Paste-up art and a damaged image

The technique involves printing an image, drawing, photograph or illustration on paper before attaching it to a wall, rather than painting directly onto the surface. Rosada said the work is produced on recycled paper and does not damage the wall itself.

For the artist, the vandalism went beyond the loss of an individual piece. After the original was damaged, he said the act had hurt him because it had defaced not only the image but also the person it represented: “It breaks my heart because they disfigured the person, the image, Franco Baresi.”

In a season where Milan’s present is judged every weekend, the return of Baresi outside Casa Milan brings one of the club’s defining figures back into view: a captain whose place in the Rossoneri story remains untouched, even when a wall tribute is not.
