San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is expected to miss two to three weeks after an MRI confirmed a knee sprain and bone bruise suffered in Sunday’s 24-14 win over the Denver Broncos.
Juszczyk was injured early in the fourth quarter after turning a Brock Purdy scramble into a 16-yard catch along the left sideline. Denver defensive back Jahdae Barron hit Juszczyk in the knee and midsection, leaving the veteran down while San Francisco’s medical staff attended to him.
Quick facts
- Kyle Juszczyk is projected to be out two to three weeks with a knee sprain and bone bruise.
- He had two receptions for 28 yards before leaving the win over Denver.
- Safety Marques Sigle finished with six tackles after suffering a stinger and then an ankle injury.
- Slot cornerback Upton Stout also recorded six tackles while dealing with a shoulder injury.
Team personnel helped Juszczyk to the sideline, where he spent time in the medical tent before returning to the bench. He was ruled out shortly afterward and did not re-enter the game.
The 10-time Pro Bowl selection has opened the season with four catches for 55 yards and one touchdown. His absence would remove a key blocker and versatile receiving option from San Francisco’s offensive package for the next stretch of games.
The 49ers also saw two defensive backs leave Sunday’s game. Sigle exited early in the third quarter with a stinger, returned for Denver’s following possession, then hurt his ankle near the Broncos’ sideline with 2:15 remaining.
Sigle did not return after the ankle injury. He ended the afternoon with six tackles.
Stout injured his shoulder in the third quarter and later jogged to the locker room for evaluation shortly after Juszczyk went down. He came back with 2:07 left, but departed again and was unavailable for Denver’s final plays.
Like Sigle, Stout posted six tackles in the victory as San Francisco improved its injury concerns following a physical finish against the Broncos.
