Friedkin Group Seeks New Investors to Take Control of Everton

On Liverpool’s northern waterfront, where Everton’s new home has risen at Bramley-Moore Dock, another change of direction is now being considered. The Friedkin Group has begun looking for investors to take control of Everton, less than two years after completing its own takeover of the club.

The American group said it had moved to secure Everton’s future when it assumed charge in December 2024, at a time when the club was dealing with financial uncertainty and pressure on and off the pitch. Completing the long-awaited stadium project was among its immediate priorities.

TFG, which also owns Italy’s Roma, brought Farhad Moshiri’s much-scrutinised era to an end when it acquired 98.8% of Everton’s shares late in 2024. That transaction was valued at about £500 million.

A brief ownership chapter

Everton’s prospective sale comes during a major period of transition for one of England’s oldest clubs. The move from Goodison Park to the new dockside stadium has coincided with a wider effort to restore financial stability after several difficult seasons.

In its statement, TFG said Everton had faced “substantial financial uncertainty” and a range of football and operational challenges when the group took over. It said its early work had focused on supplying stability, investment and support, while ensuring the stadium could be finished for the club’s supporters.

The group added that it would not make further public comment while the search for new investors continues.

No prospective buyer, timetable or proposed valuation has been disclosed. The announcement nonetheless opens the possibility that Everton could have another controlling owner before two full years have passed since TFG’s December 2024 acquisition.
