Gasperini and Lautaro Share Words After Roma-Inter Draw

Gian Piero Gasperini left Roma-Inter with another reminder of a rivalry that has followed him for years. Roma had established a 2-0 lead, yet Lautaro Martinez struck twice to deny the Giallorossi and preserve the Inter captain’s remarkable record against the coach.

The coach and the club

After the final whistle, Gasperini approached Lautaro with a smile and a brief exchange. The Roma coach has still not beaten Inter in eight years, but there was no attempt to hide his respect for the forward who had changed the afternoon.

“I told him that he always scores against me,” Gasperini said. “But the truth is that he scores against everybody. I think he is an incredible player.”

He also stressed the standing Lautaro holds across Italian football, even among those repeatedly punished by his finishing. “He is appreciated by everyone, despite the disappointment he causes his opponents,” Gasperini added.

Lautaro’s numbers against Gasperini

The draw added another line to an already striking record. In 17 meetings involving teams coached by Gasperini, Lautaro has remained unbeaten: 12 wins and five draws, with 11 goals.

His return at the Olimpico has become equally notable. The Inter captain now has seven Serie A goals at the stadium in Rome:

  • Four league goals against Lazio
  • Three league goals against Roma

For Roma, the 2-0 advantage was not enough to close the game. For Gasperini, the long wait for a victory over Inter continues. And for Lautaro, the Olimpico once again provided a stage on which he left his mark.
