Genoa vs Fiorentina: Teams Pay Tribute to Matteo Franzoso at Ferraris

Genoa and Fiorentina arrive at the Luigi Ferraris with the championship resuming under familiar pressure: one side seeking to end an awkward post-international-break run, the other aiming to preserve a more productive habit in the same fixture window. The visitors will take the opening kick, while the afternoon will begin with a collective tribute to skier Matteo Franzoso, who died on 15 September 2025.

The decision

Fabio Maresca of the Naples section has been appointed referee for Genoa-Fiorentina. Valerio Colarossi and Domenico Fontemurato will assist him, with Andrea Colombo acting as fourth official. Rosario Abisso is on VAR duty, alongside AVAR Giacomo Camplone.

The match is scheduled for 15:00 at the Ferraris and will be shown live on DAZN and DAZN 1.

The pre-match team indications offered different possible configurations for both benches. Fiorentina, coached by Paolo Vanoli, were listed in either a 4-3-3 with De Gea behind Jimenez, Dragusin, Ranieri and Valdepenas; Ndour, Fagioli and Oulai in midfield; and Mastantuono, Gnonto and Beto in attack, or a 4-2-3-1 featuring De Gea; Jimenez, Dragusin, Ranieri and Valdepenas; Ndour and Fagioli; Mastantuono, Goncalves and Njie behind Pellegrino.

Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa were also associated with two options: a 4-4-1-1 of Bijlow; Ehizibue, Otoa, Ostigard and Vasquez; Ellertsson, Frendrup, Traorè and El Shaarawy; Messias supporting Osmajic. The alternative was a 3-5-2 with Bijlow in goal, Marcandalli, Ostigard and Vasquez across the back, Ehizibue, Baldanzi, Frendrup, Amorim and Ellertsson through midfield, and Vitinha alongside Osmajic.

Sunday’s picture

For Genoa, the return from an international pause has become a recurring problem. The Rossoblu have gone 16 Serie A matches without victory after national-team breaks, drawing 10 and losing six. Their last win in that particular circumstance came on 12 September 2021, when they beat Cagliari 3-2.

Fiorentina’s recent record is considerably brighter. They have won four of their last seven league matches played after international breaks, with one draw and two defeats, scoring 13 goals across those games at an average of 1.9 per match.

There is also an individual thread around Franco Mastantuono. The 2007-born attacker has registered 22 attempts in the opening part of the Serie A season, level with Lautaro Martínez and second only to Nico Paz’s 27. Eight of Mastantuono’s shots have been on target; only Donyell Malen, with 10, has recorded more, while Matías Soulé and Tasos Douvikas have also reached eight.
