Gerry Cardinale Wears “Make Milan Great Again” Cap at Milanello

Gerry Cardinale brought a pointed piece of Milan branding to Ruben Amorim’s press conference, appearing in a cap carrying the message “Make Milan Great Again”. The RedBird founder’s choice was quickly noticed, adding a symbolic detail to a period in which the club’s direction remains under close scrutiny.

The decision

The wording adapts “Make America Great Again”, the slogan associated with Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign and frequently seen on the American president’s red caps. Cardinale has worn his Milan version before, but his appearance at Amorim’s press conference ensured it became part of the day’s discussion.

The Milan owner has also made two White House visits in recent months. On 15 June, he attended UFC Freedom 250 with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The mixed martial arts event was staged at the presidential residence to mark Trump’s 80th birthday.

Cardinale had previously been at the White House on 6 March for “Saving College Sports”, a round-table meeting focused on the future of American college athletics and the reform of the NCAA model.

That gathering brought together leading figures from the sports industry and academic institutions to address the increasingly complicated structure of university sport in the United States. Cardinale joined names including NBA commissioner Adam Silver and former coach Nick Saban.

For Milan, the cap was a small but deliberate public gesture from the man at the head of RedBird: a statement of ambition, placed beside a club still seeking to shape its next chapter on and off the pitch.
