Getafe Close In on Free-Agent Signing of Dani Carvajal

Getafe are closing in on one of Spain’s most startling summer moves, with Dani Carvajal set to join the club as a free agent after his Real Madrid contract ended on 30 June. The right-back’s arrival would bring a decade of elite-level experience from Madrid’s biggest European occasions to the Coliseum.

Club president Ángel Torres said Carvajal has already completed his medical examination and that the agreement with the player is in place. The transfer still requires a final arrangement between Getafe and LaLiga before it can be formally announced.

Quick facts

  • Dani Carvajal is expected to sign for Getafe after leaving Real Madrid as a free agent.
  • His Real Madrid deal expired on 30 June.
  • Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed that the player has undergone a medical.
  • The remaining step concerns an agreement involving LaLiga and Getafe.
  • Coach José Bordalás personally contacted Carvajal during the negotiations.

For Getafe, it is a signing shaped as much by need as by opportunity. Bordalás had identified the flank as an area requiring dependable reinforcement for a demanding campaign, and Carvajal’s availability offered the chance to add proven quality without a transfer fee.

The coach took a direct role in the approach, calling the Leganés-born defender to set out his plans. Bordalás explained the tactical importance Carvajal would have in his side and the leadership expected from him in the dressing room.

Carvajal responded positively to the proposal. Remaining in top-flight Spanish football, staying in the Madrid region and joining a side whose combative, high-intensity identity suits his own on-pitch character were all factors in his willingness to make the move.

A product of Real Madrid’s academy and one of the club’s most decorated figures of the past decade, Carvajal would give Getafe a player accustomed to the pressure of continental knockout nights. His expected switch across the capital would significantly raise the experience and authority available to Bordalás on the right side.

Until the final LaLiga issue is resolved, the deal cannot be made official. But Getafe supporters are already anticipating a major addition: a European-seasoned defender preparing to make the Coliseum his next stage.
