Getafe Make Contact Over Potential Sergio Ramos Move

Madrid’s southern edge could yet become the next stop in Sergio Ramos’s long career, with Getafe keeping the 40-year-old defender among their possible future additions while pursuing reinforcements in wider areas.

Quick facts

  • Getafe president Ángel Torres has confirmed contact with Sergio Ramos’s brother and agent.
  • The club already has six central defenders and does not view the position as an immediate priority.
  • Jadon Sancho remains in talks with Getafe, while Dani Parejo is also being considered.
  • Getafe expect to know next week whether those negotiations can be completed.
  • Ramos has not played since Monterrey’s late-2025 playoff match against Toluca.

Torres said Ramos remains on the club’s list despite the depth already available at centre-back. The Getafe coach had identified wing options as the more urgent requirement for the current campaign.

“His brother, who is his representative, has been speaking with me,” Torres said. “We have six central defenders, so it was not the area the manager needed most. He wanted players for the flanks, but it is not too late and Ramos is among the possibilities.”

The president indicated that a move could still develop, particularly if Getafe revisit the central-defence market in January. For now, however, he believes that department is adequately covered.

Sancho is the more immediate discussion in the Spanish capital. Torres said negotiations with the English winger have been ongoing for several months, while former Valencia and Villarreal midfielder Parejo is another potential target.

“We are speaking with Sancho, as we were three or four months ago,” Torres said. “Parejo could also be an option. Next week we should be able to say whether or not the deals are done.”

Any Ramos arrival would add another major Spanish name to a Getafe side that already includes Dani Carvajal. It would also bring the defender back into Spanish football after a brief, injury-affected spell in Mexico with Monterrey.

A short Mexican chapter

Ramos joined Rayados at the beginning of 2025 as one of Liga MX’s highest-profile signings, arriving with Champions League titles, a World Cup winner’s medal and a standing as one of Spain’s defining defenders of his generation.

He played more than 30 matches for Monterrey, scoring eight goals and registering no assists. His last appearance came in the playoff meeting with Toluca late in 2025.

Injuries interrupted his time with the club from his first tournament, although he also produced several strong defensive displays and regularly won individual duels. His attempt to deliver a trophy to Monterrey ultimately fell short, and his stay ended sooner than expected.
