Cleveland’s Game 5 whirlwind is barely in the rearview mirror as the Guardians arrive in St. Petersburg for the American League Championship Series. The Rays, meanwhile, bring four full days between games into the opener.
The result
The Guardians earned their place in the ALCS with a Game 5 victory, then turned quickly toward the trip to St. Petersburg. It is the familiar October contrast: one clubhouse still carrying the energy of a decisive game, the other waiting with a rested roster.
Rays pitcher Griffin Jax framed the difference simply. “It’s an old debate: rest versus rust,” Jax said.
Tampa Bay will see whether the extra days have sharpened its pitching and lineup work, while Cleveland will try to carry the urgency and timing from its winner-take-all game into the next round.
