The decision is complicated by Ebnoutalib’s rapid development. The 56-year-old coach admitted he had not expected the forward to become a Germany international so quickly.
“If I look back at pre-season, I would not have predicted it. I have to be honest about that,” Hütter said.
He recalled that Ebnoutalib did not convert everything during the summer friendlies and missed a number of chances. Since then, the attacker has moved sharply up the pecking order, including his goal against Freiburg, celebrated with Uzun.
