In the tense aftermath of Denmark’s meeting with Portugal, Rasmus Hojlund confronted Jorge Jesus after feeling the Portuguese coach had dismissed him at the final whistle.
The news from the club
The Danish forward, a declared admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, said the dispute began when Jesus did not properly acknowledge him during the customary post-match greetings.
Hojlund explained that he believed the coach had shown poor sporting conduct by failing to make eye contact and offer a full handshake. Instead, he said, Jesus gave him what felt like a cold touch to the chest before moving on.
“It was because he did not seem to care about looking me in the eyes,” Hojlund said. “I think that is not sporting. You have to shake hands properly after a match. I got a cold touch on the chest and then he ignored me. That is why I said, ‘Are you serious?’ That was all.”
Images from the incident showed Hojlund pushing Jorge Jesus as the exchange became heated, adding another flashpoint to the close of the international contest.
