Hornets turn Hield into Dillingham
The trade comes shortly after the Hornets acquired Hield, with Charlotte electing to move the veteran wing before he begins his 11th NBA season. The return is Dillingham, a young combo guard now headed to his third organization since February’s trade deadline.

For the Hornets, the central benefit is financial as much as rotational. Moving Hield’s larger contract cuts salary from the books and creates a trade exception matching the value of his deal.
The move also gives Charlotte a chance to evaluate Dillingham’s upside rather than committing minutes and money to an older perimeter shooter. Dillingham’s path has been unsettled since the deadline, but the Hornets are taking a low-cost swing on his ability to develop as a ball-handler who can play alongside another lead guard or run bench possessions.
Bulls add proven volume shooting
Chicago gets the more established on-court commodity in Hield, whose spacing should translate immediately into the Bulls’ perimeter rotation. Across his career, Hield has hit 39.5 percent from 3-point range while attempting 7.3 threes per game.
