At Appiano Gentile, where international breaks usually offer a quieter spell for those left behind, Inter have instead lost Curtis Jones to a thigh problem. The English midfielder remained at La Pinetina after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, only to suffer the injury during training.
Medical examinations at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano found a myofascial issue affecting the adductor area of Jones’s right thigh. Inter said the 25-year-old will be assessed again over the coming days, although his expected absence is understood to be around three to four weeks.
It is an unwelcome interruption for Cristian Chivu and the Italian champions. Jones joined Inter from Liverpool last summer in a €30 million deal, ending a long association with the Anfield club he had represented since childhood.
Barella in line for Parma visit
Nicolò Barella is the leading option to take Jones’s place when Inter travel into their next Serie A assignment against Parma on Saturday. Chivu’s side then return to Milan for a Champions League league-phase meeting with Club Brugge on Tuesday.
With domestic and European commitments arriving in quick succession, Inter will wait for the next medical update before establishing how much of the coming schedule Jones is likely to miss.
