At the Giuseppe Meazza, Inter Milan turned an early autumn Serie A afternoon into a statement of control, sweeping Parma aside 3-0 to move clear at the top of the table after six rounds. Cristian Chivu’s side had the contest in their hands well before the interval, with Petar Sucic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram scoring in a ruthless first-half spell.
Inter set the tone from the opening whistle, pressing Parma back and repeatedly reaching dangerous areas around the visitors’ goal. The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Sucic put the home side ahead, giving the Nerazzurri the reward for their fast start and allowing them to dictate the rhythm with even greater confidence.
Parma had little time to settle after conceding. Five minutes later, Calhanoglu converted a penalty to double Inter’s advantage, leaving the away team facing a steep task in Milan. The hosts continued to use possession intelligently, occupying the pitch well and finding space against opponents unable to establish a sustained response.
A first-half decision in Milan
The decisive third goal arrived on 31 minutes. Thuram finished a flowing Inter move after Henrikh Mkhitaryan had helped shape the attack, and the French forward’s strike effectively closed the contest inside little more than half an hour.
Inter’s dominance was reflected in the numbers as well as the scoreline. They held 59 per cent of the ball and produced 2.36 expected goals, combining territorial command with the clinical edge that Parma lacked. The 3-0 margin accurately captured a first half in which Chivu’s players made their best moments count.
There was no dramatic change after the restart. With the result already secure, Inter managed the second half without exposing themselves unnecessarily, keeping Parma away from a goal that might have disturbed the calm around the stadium. The visitors could not find a route back into the game, while the Nerazzurri protected their clean sheet to the final whistle.
The result places Inter alone at the summit of Serie A following the sixth matchday. Sucic’s early intervention, Calhanoglu’s penalty and Thuram’s finish supplied the goals, but the wider message from Milan was one of authority: Inter controlled the occasion from the beginning and gave Parma no opening to turn it into a contest.
