London’s Soho, rather than a Ligue 1 stadium, is the setting for the latest development involving former Brentford forward Ivan Toney, who has denied an assault charge in court.
The Ligue 1 news
Toney, now playing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, entered a not-guilty plea on Thursday at Westminster court over an allegation of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The accusation relates to an incident said to have taken place at a nightclub in Soho on 6 December. It is the only charge brought against the 30-year-old in the case.
When he was charged on 31 July, a representative for Toney said the player was shocked by the allegation and wanted the opportunity to clear his name through the court process.
The England international was part of the Three Lions squad during the World Cup that summer.
