Jalen Brunson arrived at Madison Square Garden on Monday night wearing Rangers blue for one of the building’s own. The Knicks captain walked in for New York’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in an Igor Shesterkin home jersey, offering a visible nod to the injured Rangers goaltender.
The gesture landed with the Rangers, who reacted to the Knicks’ social-media post showing Brunson’s pregame outfit. Both stars call the Garden home, and Brunson’s choice came days after Shesterkin’s season-ending injury news.
Shesterkin was hurt in Friday’s game against the Washington Capitals. The Rangers announced Saturday that the 2022 Vezina Trophy winner will miss the rest of the season.
Brunson did not address the jersey while entering the arena, but the message was easy to read: support for a fellow Garden cornerstone facing a long recovery. The Knicks captain is coming off a championship run of his own, having led New York to its first NBA title in 53 years in June and earned 2026 NBA Finals MVP honors.
