Amsterdam offered Jürgen Klopp an immediate complication on his first night as Germany coach, with Jamal Musiala withdrawn shortly before the Nations League meeting with the Netherlands at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
A late change in Amsterdam
- Klopp named the Bayern Munich midfielder in his starting side for Germany’s opening Group 2 fixture in League A.
- During the pre-match warm-up, Musiala felt discomfort in his thigh on the Johan Cruyff Arena pitch.
- Germany removed him from the matchday plans as a precaution, leaving Klopp to revise his first XI at the last moment.
- Nadiem Amiri, the 29-year-old Mainz midfielder, came into the German starting team in Musiala’s place.
The match marked Klopp’s debut in charge of the national side after taking over from Julian Nagelsmann in July. Across the pitch, Xavi Hernández was also beginning his tenure as Netherlands coach.
For Germany, the Musiala setback arrived before a ball had been kicked in a demanding Nations League window, turning the opening evening of Klopp’s new international role into an early test of depth and adjustment.
