Jayden Addai’s route back into Como’s season has begun with a small but meaningful step: a place in the travelling squad for the trip to Frosinone. He did not leave the bench, as was expected after seven months without football, but being back among Cesc Fabregas’s players marked the end of a long period spent on the outside.
The Dutch winger last appeared on 14 February, coming on during the second half for Perrone in Como’s 2-1 home defeat to Fiorentina. Around ten days later, he ruptured the Achilles tendon in his left foot during training. Surgery followed, then the long rehabilitation process, while Como continued their remarkable campaign and secured a place in the Champions League.
Addai is now using the international break to restore the physical sharpness that only training and competitive rhythm can provide. He hopes to return to official action when Como resume against Roma on Sunday 11, with the lunchtime meeting carrying the weight of an early contest near the top of the table.
Signed from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2025 for €14 million, Addai recorded 16 appearances and three goals in his first season at the club. A left-footed right winger, he offers pace and technical quality, and has been viewed by Fabregas as the leading alternative to Diao. His ability to attack tiring opponents could give Como another option from the bench as the calendar becomes more demanding.
Diao has made a strong beginning, scoring three times in six matches across Serie A and the Champions League, but October will test the depth of Fabregas’s group. Como face six fixtures in 16 days: Roma, Feyenoord, Fiorentina, Manchester United, Sassuolo and Torino. In that sequence, Addai’s recovery could arrive at exactly the moment the club needs fresh legs and another wide attacking presence.
