Jean-Mattéo Bahoya Suffers Ankle Injury on France U21 Duty

Under the lights in Orléans, France’s Under-21 camp took another blow as Jean-Mattéo Bahoya limped out of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Luxembourg with an ankle problem.

The Ligue 1 news

Bahoya was forced off in the 37th minute after a challenge with a Luxembourg player. The attacking midfielder initially received treatment and attempted to continue, but could not remain on the pitch and was replaced by Mathys Tel.

France Under-21 coach Gérald Baticle said further examinations would be needed to establish the precise nature of the injury.

“I cannot tell you exactly what he has,” Baticle said after the match. “There will be additional tests, but it is his ankle.”

The incident added to a damaging international window for the France Under-21 squad. Senny Mayulu and Ethan Mbappé were both injured during Tuesday’s 2-0 victory in Estonia, while goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen suffered a hamstring issue in training on Thursday.

France still overcame Luxembourg 3-2 in Orléans, but Bahoya’s early departure leaves another fitness concern to be assessed after the international break.
