Jonathan Clauss found the top corner with the help of the crossbar as Nice claimed a 2-1 home win over Strasbourg on Sunday, delivering a late moment of precision that lifted the Riviera club to ninth place after the sixth round of Ligue 1 fixtures.
The move
The France international struck in the 81st minute for the goal that separated the sides at the Allianz Riviera. Sofiane Diop picked out Clauss inside the area, with the right-sided player stationed at a tight angle.
Clauss allowed the pass to run before unleashing a fierce shot towards the upper corner. The effort clipped the bar on its way in, leaving Strasbourg goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen with no chance.
It was Clauss’ first goal of the Ligue 1 campaign and proved decisive in a 2-1 result for Nice.

The French season around it
Nice have now recorded two league victories this season. Their previous success also came at home, a 2-1 victory over Lille immediately before the international break.
The win against Strasbourg moved the Aiglons into ninth position before the remaining matches of Ligue 1’s sixth matchday were completed. For Clauss, a first goal of the season arrived at a valuable time: late in the game, in front of the home crowd, and with three points on the line.
