Julián Quiñones Missing as Al Qadsiah Beat Abha 2-1

In Al Khobar, Al Qadsiah moved through Saudi Pro League matchday nine without Julián Quiñones, beating Abha 2-1 despite the Mexican international’s absence from both the starting side and the substitutes’ bench.

The club has not explained why Quiñones was unavailable for the 2026-27 league fixture. Rest remains a possibility, with suggestions that the forward may still be on holiday, but there has been no official confirmation.

Quick facts

  • Al Qadsiah defeated Abha 2-1 in Saudi Pro League matchday nine.
  • Julián Quiñones was not named in the squad.
  • Mateo Retegui opened the scoring in the 30th minute.
  • Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat made it 2-0 in the 69th minute.
  • Abha reduced the deficit late in the match.

Quiñones had missed Mexico’s most recent international window through injury. After that period, he returned to action for Al Qadsiah in two matches.

He scored once and supplied two assists against Al Kholood in the league, before featuring in the 1-1 draw with Pakhtakor. His omission against Abha therefore came after a brief run back on the pitch.

Al Qadsiah controlled much of the contest without one of their regular attacking reference points. Retegui’s first-half finish gave the home side the lead, and Abu Al-Shamat added a second after the interval.

Abha found a late response to make the closing stages less comfortable, but Al Qadsiah protected their advantage. The result underlined their ability to win without Quiñones, even as the club awaits clarity over when the forward will return.
