Turin has turned to familiar hands as Juventus bring Brazilian goalkeeper Neto back to Italy, signing the former Botafogo player on a free transfer after his contract in Rio de Janeiro was ended in June.
The 37-year-old, who celebrated his birthday in July, returns to a club he represented between 2015 and 2017. Juventus sought an experienced replacement option behind Vicario after Grabara sustained a serious knee injury, and Neto’s availability, along with his long background in Italian football, made him a natural fit.
Neto also spent four years with Fiorentina before his first spell at Juventus, giving him extensive experience of the country and its demands. The move offers the Turin side a seasoned goalkeeper without a transfer fee at a moment when depth in the position had become necessary.
His most recent stop was Botafogo, where he arrived in 2025 following John’s departure. Neto was brought in to fill a significant role but did not establish himself as the undisputed first choice and endured an uneven period marked by costly mistakes.
Juventus now provide a return route to a league he knows well, with Neto joining the squad primarily as cover for Vicario as the Italian club manage the absence created by Grabara’s injury.
