Napoli found a measure of calm under the lights on Saturday, beating newly promoted Frosinone 3-0 to register their third Serie A win of the campaign. Kevin De Bruyne scored twice, including a stoppage-time finish, as Massimiliano Allegri’s side moved back towards the crowded group above them.
The result leaves Napoli eighth after six rounds, but it offers a timely lift before Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Villarreal.
De Bruyne takes charge after early Hojlund frustration
Rasmus Hojlund had an eventful opening half-hour. The Danish forward struck the post in the fourth minute, then missed a penalty which was ordered to be retaken after players entered the area too early.
De Bruyne assumed responsibility for the second attempt and converted from the spot in the 29th minute to put Napoli ahead.
Four minutes later, Hojlund turned creator. He supplied a precise lay-off for Noa Lang, who doubled the home side’s advantage in the 33rd minute.
Napoli finish the job on the break
After a lively first half-hour, Napoli allowed Frosinone more of the ball and looked to attack in transition. The visitors could not find a route back into the contest, while the hosts remained dangerous on the counter.
De Bruyne sealed the victory in the fourth minute of added time, finishing a late breakaway to complete his first double since arriving in Italian football.
The 3-0 scoreline does not immediately change Napoli’s league position, but it gives them momentum after a sluggish start and before a demanding European night in Spain.
