Barcelona’s evening against Racing carried a rare setback for Lamine Yamal: the 18-year-old saw a first-half penalty saved after Raphinha had already converted from the spot.
Yamal denied from the spot as Barcelona face Racing
Raphinha had put away Barcelona’s earlier penalty in the 22nd minute, after Pedro brought him down, to make it 2-0. When Racing conceded another spot-kick shortly before the interval, the Brazilian passed the responsibility to Yamal.
Pedro was again involved, this time fouling Karim Adeyemi in the 44th minute. Yamal stepped up as he had done against Levante the previous Sunday, but Julen Agirrezabala read the attempt and saved low to his left.
Quick facts
- Raphinha scored a 22nd-minute penalty after a foul by Pedro.
- Yamal took Barcelona’s second penalty in the 44th minute after Pedro fouled Karim Adeyemi.
- Julen Agirrezabala saved Yamal’s mid-height effort to his left.
- The miss was Yamal’s second from nine penalties for Barcelona.
- Yamal was booked in first-half stoppage time for a foul on Iñigo Sáez.
The Barcelona No. 10 did not place the ball sufficiently close to the corner, allowing Agirrezabala to prevent what would have been a 5-1 scoreline. His frustration continued into added time, when he received a yellow card following the challenge on Iñigo Sáez.
Yamal had arrived with six goals and three successive doubles to his name, but this was another missed opportunity from 12 yards. His only previous penalty failure for Barcelona came away at Girona on 16 February 2026.
That night at Montilivi, with the match still goalless, Paulo Gazzaniga stopped Yamal’s kick. Girona went on to win 2-1.
