Lamine Yamal Wins Kopa Trophy at 2026 Ballon d’Or Ceremony

At London’s Palladium Theatre, Lamine Yamal arrived for the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony with the attention of the evening already settling around him. The Barcelona forward, accompanied by his mother Sheila Ebana, made a striking entrance before becoming the first recipient called to the stage.

The 19-year-old collected the Kopa Trophy, France Football’s award for the world’s leading young player. It was his third consecutive success in the category, extending a remarkable run for a footballer who has moved from teenage promise to the centre of both Barcelona and Spain’s biggest achievements.

Yamal’s latest individual honour follows a season in which he helped Barcelona retain La Liga and Spain win the World Cup. Those twin triumphs have also placed him among the principal contenders for the Ballon d’Or itself, the night’s top prize.

His appearance in London, complete with an extravagant outfit that quickly drew notice around the theatre, reflected the scale of his growing profile. Yet the Kopa Trophy offered the more concrete marker: for a third year running, the young Barcelona star has been recognised as the standout player of his generation.
