Leo Messi has moved to take ownership of CD Eldense, subject to approval from Spain’s Superior Sports Council, in a deal that would place one of football’s defining modern figures at the centre of a new project in the Spanish professional game.
The Segunda División club announced that the Argentine has acquired the entity, describing the move as the beginning of a fresh chapter for an institution founded in 1921. The transaction has been developing over recent weeks and cannot be completed until the CSD grants the required authorisation under Spain’s Sports Law.
Eldense said Messi’s arrival as owner brings a long-term vision intended to strengthen the club on sporting, institutional and social levels. The club sees the operation as a chance to build on its place in professional football while preserving the history and blue-and-maroon identity that have shaped more than a century of life in Elda.
A new ownership project awaits clearance
The club framed the proposed takeover as a landmark moment, with Messi becoming the owner of a Spanish professional side once the regulatory process is concluded. The CSD’s approval remains the final necessary step before the ownership change can formally take effect.
For Eldense, the immediate objective is consolidation and growth in the professional ranks. The longer view is to use Messi’s involvement to develop the club beyond results alone, extending its sporting structure while reinforcing its standing within the city and its wider community.
