In Manchester, where the blue half of the city is waiting for a long legal process to take shape, Liam Gallagher has offered a defiant view of the possible consequences facing Manchester City over alleged Premier League financial breaches.

A report published last week stated that City had been found responsible for 114 of the 115 charges brought against them in relation to financial irregularities. The case has nevertheless not reached its final stage, with appeals still to be heard before any punishment is confirmed.
Possible sanctions have been widely discussed, including a financial penalty, points deductions, the removal of titles or relegation. No final ruling on the club’s punishment has yet been issued.
Gallagher, the Oasis singer and a prominent City supporter, said on social media that he had been told by a person “in a very, very high position” that, should the club lose its appeal, the outcome would be limited to “a fine and a ban, and that’s it”.
He also insisted that City would not lose the appeal and directed a blunt message at those hoping for a severe punishment, telling the club’s critics to be quiet.
