Létang, 53, reacted furiously to the circumstances of the equaliser. His record of previous confrontations involving match officials meant he had faced the possibility of a substantial suspension.
A financial sanction rather than a ban
The commission instead imposed a €20,000 penalty. The decision reflects a policy introduced during the close season under which disciplinary authorities intend to favour significant fines for club executives over suspensions.
The revised approach was adopted on the basis that bans had not always proved sufficiently effective in changing the conduct of club officials.
Armand receives suspended one-match ban
Lille sporting coordinator Sylvain Armand was also sanctioned over his conduct after the same match.
Armand received a one-match suspended ban covering the touchline, the referees’ dressing-room area and all official duties.
