Lionel Messi Agrees to Acquire Spanish Club CD Eldense

In Elda, where the blue-and-red colours have marked more than a century of local football, CD Eldense have opened the door to an extraordinary new chapter. The Spanish club has announced an agreement for Lionel Messi to acquire the institution, placing the Argentine at the centre of a long-term ownership project in the professional game.

The move would bring one of football’s defining modern figures into Spanish club ownership after a playing career that included Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Eldense said the plan is intended to support the club’s sporting, institutional and social development, rather than represent a short-term intervention.

Founded in 1921, Eldense carry a history of more than 100 years and have stressed that their future development should remain connected to their roots, heritage and the blue-and-red identity associated with the club. The stated ambition is to reinforce the organisation on and off the pitch while helping it establish itself and grow within Spanish professional football.

A project awaiting formal clearance

Messi’s arrival has been announced by Eldense, but the transaction has not yet been fully completed. The acquisition remains subject to authorisation from Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes, the Higher Sports Council, under the provisions of the country’s Sports Law.

Once that approval is secured, Messi can formally begin his role as owner. Eldense view the proposed change as one of the most significant developments in their recent history, built around a longer horizon: sporting progress, stronger club structures and the preservation of an identity shaped in Elda since 1921.
