Luca Vozar’s route from Schalke member at three months old to Bundesliga player is now formal. The 19-year-old midfielder has signed a professional contract with the promoted club running until 30 June 2029.
Academy route reaches the first team
Vozar was born in Bottrop and joined Schalke as an infant. He later entered the Knappenschmiede and played for the club’s U9 side.
- A strong campaign with the U19s put him on the radar of first-team coach Miron Muslic.
- After Schalke’s promotion, Muslic included the left-footed midfielder in the senior group for the summer.
- Vozar featured in pre-season, including the friendly against Real Madrid.
- He made his Bundesliga debut against Bayern Munich, coming on in the 74th minute of the 0-0 draw.
Schalke see another academy step
Youri Mulder, Schalke’s director of professional football, pointed to Vozar as the latest product of the club’s youth pathway. Vitalie Becker and Mertcan Ayhan made their own first-team breakthroughs last season.
Mulder highlighted Vozar’s technique, reading of the game and accurate delivery from set pieces. The midfielder is also regarded as a threat in front of goal with his left foot.
The club plans to manage his progress carefully. Mulder said the squad values Vozar’s determination to improve each day, while Muslic has already stressed the need to develop him steadily rather than rush him.
Next squad chance against Elversberg
Vozar described his first Bundesliga appearance at the Arena as the fulfilment of a dream. He thanked those who had supported him at Schalke and said reaching the professional side with his own club carried special meaning.
He also said he wants to take further steps as a player while remaining humble.
Schalke host fellow promoted side SV Elversberg on Sunday at 17:30. Vozar is expected to be in the matchday squad again.
