Bayern Munich moved top of the Bundesliga on goal difference with a 6-1 win over RB Leipzig, led by Luis Díaz’s first-half and second-half finishing.
- Bayern are level on points with Borussia Dortmund and lead the table on goal difference. It is their first time top since matchday one.
- Freiburg can reclaim first place by winning at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
- Luis Díaz scored a hat-trick, striking in the 12th minute from Joshua Kimmich’s pass, in the 47th after Harry Kane’s assist, and in the 69th from Michael Olise’s delivery.
- The Colombia winger also set up Aleksandar Pavlovic for Bayern’s second goal.
- Olise scored Bayern’s third with a shot from the edge of the box in the 34th minute, created Díaz’s 6-0, and hit the post.
- Kane scored in his 100th Bundesliga appearance for Bayern after receiving the ball from Nathaniel Brown. He also supplied Díaz for his second goal.
- Maksimovic scored Leipzig’s late consolation in the 92nd minute.
- Díaz will miss Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday after his Tuesday red card against Viking, when he threw the ball at Zlatko Tripic.
- Bayern had drawn 3-3 away to Viking on Tuesday before the Leipzig match.
- Leipzig travel to Real Madrid on Wednesday in the Champions League league phase.
- The result matched Leipzig’s heaviest Bundesliga defeat.
What it changes in the Bundesliga week
Vincent Kompany’s side have immediate control of the summit, although Freiburg have the Sunday chance to take it back in Leverkusen.
Leipzig were repeatedly exposed on Lukas Klostermann’s flank and had no response to Bayern’s wide combinations. Kompany also won the meeting with Martin Demichelis, his former Manchester City central-defence partner.
Bayern now turn to Arsenal without Díaz. Leipzig leave Munich for Madrid after their joint-worst league defeat.
