Spain have chosen continuity at the top. Luis de la Fuente, the coach who has led La Roja through a remarkable run of silverware, has signed a new deal keeping him in charge until 2032.
A long-term commitment from the Spanish federation
The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed the extension on Monday, ending days of expectation over De la Fuente’s future. The 65-year-old is now contracted for the next six years, a period that includes the 2030 World Cup on home soil.
Spain will co-host that tournament with Portugal and Morocco, while De la Fuente’s new agreement also covers Euro 2028 and Euro 2032.

Trust in a trophy-winning coach
Federation president Rafael Louzán said the decision was built around stability and confidence in both the manager and the sporting direction he has established.
“We are seeking a project founded on stability and trust,” Louzán said. “This proposal is based on the faith placed in Luis de la Fuente and in the sporting project he leads, across a multi-year cycle of competitions and major tournaments.”
Louzán described De la Fuente as the most decorated coach in the history of Spain’s national side and said he deserved a long future within the federation.
From youth teams to Spain’s golden generation
Before taking the senior job, De la Fuente worked with Spain’s Under-19 side and Under-21s. Since his 2023 appointment, his senior team have won Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup, while also reaching the 2025 Nations League final.
The extension gives him the chance to lead the same generation into another major international cycle, with Spain aiming to add further European and world titles before his contract reaches its conclusion in 2032.
