Magic Bring Kevin Knox II Into Training Camp Roster

The Orlando Magic added a familiar NBA wing to the camp mix, signing free-agent forward Kevin Knox II and assigning him No. 24. The club also cleared four players from its roster ahead of training camp, which opens Tuesday, September 29 at the AdventHealth Training Center.

Orlando adds Knox to the forward group

Knox, 26, arrives after a productive run with the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League. The 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward started all 26 of his regular-season appearances last year, posting 22.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 34.7 minutes per game.

He connected on 84 of 204 three-point attempts, good for 41.2 percent, and made 67 of 80 free throws for an 83.8 percent mark. The Magic did not release contract terms.

  1. New York selected Knox with the ninth pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after his lone season at Kentucky.
  2. He has played 320 NBA regular-season games, including 77 starts, across stops with the Knicks, Hawks, Pistons, Trail Blazers and Warriors.
  3. Over those NBA appearances, Knox has averaged 7.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game.
  4. His G League résumé includes 49 regular-season games, all starts, with Rip City, Santa Cruz and Windy City. He has averaged 23.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 34.1 minutes, while shooting 40.8 percent from three.

College résumé and camp moves

Knox was a one-and-done starter at Kentucky in 2017-18, when he averaged 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 37 games. He shared SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors with Collin Sexton and also earned first-team All-SEC recognition and a place on the conference’s All-Freshman Team.

On the outgoing side, Orlando waived guard Ace Baldwin Jr., guard Ricky Council IV, guard Jarron Cumberland and forward Au’Diese Toney.

The next roster checkpoint comes when the Magic report to the AdventHealth Training Center for the opening of training camp on September 29.
