NFL Sunday Report: Mahomes cleared, Rush expected to start, extensions completed
Mahomes has been removed from the injury report and is set to return when the Chiefs face the Broncos on Monday night. Kansas City will be without tackle Josh Simmons, who has been ruled out with a back injury, while safety Chamarri Conner will miss the game because of a knee issue.
Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones did not practice Saturday after his calf tightened on Friday. He has not been assigned a game-status designation and is expected to be available Monday.
Rush, scheduled to start in place of Tua Tagovailoa, dealt with back spasms Saturday but remains on track to play against the Steelers on Sunday. Offensive tackle Cam Williams has been moved to injured reserve.
Contract business and cap moves
Green Bay tight end Tucker Kraft has reached agreement on a four-year extension valued at $75 million, with incentives that could lift the deal to $92 million. The Packers later confirmed the extension.
Raiders tight end Michael Mayer has agreed to a three-year, $45 million extension that includes $30 million in guarantees.
The Texans and quarterback C.J. Stroud have decided to put extension negotiations on hold until the conclusion of the season.
The Lions reworked the contracts of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and left tackle Penei Sewell, opening more than $30 million in salary-cap room.
The three-year extension for running back D’Andre Swift was formally announced.
Injured reserve and availability updates
Several clubs made injury-related roster changes before Sunday’s games. Wide receiver A.J. Brown has gone on injured reserve with an ankle injury, while running back Audric Estimé was placed on IR because of a thigh issue.
Running back Malik Davis has been placed on injured reserve with a hip injury. Tight end Eli Stowers also landed on IR after being listed with quad and hamstring trouble.
Running back Kene Nwangwu has been downgraded to out for Sunday’s matchup with the Titans because of a back injury. Wide receiver Tim Patrick has been moved to injured reserve.
Practice-squad promotions and new signings
Quarterback Miller Moss joined a practice squad and was immediately elevated for Sunday’s game against the Panthers. Linebacker Jamon Johnson and defensive end Levi Onwuzurike were also added to practice squads.
Running back Israel Abanikanda, tight end Treyton Welch and wide receiver Dalen Cambre were signed from practice squads to active rosters. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones was signed as well.
One roster departure was also recorded, with cornerback Lardarius Webb released.
