Manchester City Extend Perfect Start to Stay Top of Premier League

Manchester City have made it seven wins from seven at the start of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign, edging Ipswich Town 3-2 to keep their early grip on top spot.

The result also gave Enzo Maresca a place in the league’s record books. In his first season in charge at the club, following Pep Guardiola’s departure, Maresca has become the first Premier League manager to win each of his opening seven matches with a new side.

Guardiola had previously set the mark City’s new manager has now passed, having begun the 2016-17 league season with six consecutive victories. Maresca’s side have gone one better, though Ipswich ensured there was no easy afternoon about it.

City put pressure on Arsenal

City’s seventh straight victory leaves them six points ahead of reigning champions Arsenal, who travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s side have a chance to reduce that gap, but the leaders have already laid down a firm early-season marker.

Brighton remain third and will welcome Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Chelsea climbed into fourth after a 2-0 win away at Everton.

Liverpool are fifth following a 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford, another result that kept the leading pack closely bunched behind City.

Fulham move clear of the bottom

At the other end, Álvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham stepped away from the foot of the table with a 1-0 win over Hull. The London club now sit 16th and, for the moment, outside the relegation places.
