Manchester City Host Reigning Champions PSG in Champions League Showdown

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain arrive in Manchester with the first Champions League night of the new league phase already behind them, but with little separating two sides carrying major European ambitions. PSG, the reigning champions, visit the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday at 16:00 Brasília time after both clubs opened the 2026-27 campaign with victories.

Paris hold first place in the 36-team league table, ahead of 15 other clubs also on three points, because of their commanding opening result. Luis Enrique’s side swept past Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes on 9 September, with Ferrán Torres scoring a hat-trick, Ousmane Dembélé adding two and Fabián Ruiz completing the scoring. Suleiman Camara scored Slovan’s consolation.

The French champions have also found momentum at home. Their 3-1 win over Le Mans was a third successive Ligue 1 victory and left them three points behind leaders Monaco.

City carry a winning run into European test

City began their continental schedule with a 2-0 win away to Porto at the Estádio do Dragão, Erling Haaland scoring both goals. That result leaves Enzo Maresca’s team eighth, currently in the final position that secures direct qualification for the last 16.

The English club have won eight matches in a row in all competitions. The latest came on Sunday, when City beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in a derby overshadowed by home supporters’ chants about Manchester City’s punishment in the Premier League financial-rules case.

Haaland can add another Champions League landmark against PSG. The Norwegian has 59 goals from 59 appearances in the competition, placing him third on its all-time scoring list. A goal in Manchester would bring him level with, or move him beyond, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s total of 60 in 81 games. Cristiano Ronaldo remains well clear at the summit with 141 goals in 183 appearances.
