Real Betis’ 1-0 Champions League victory over Feyenoord carried a deeply personal meaning for Marc Bartra, who dedicated the European-night result to his late maternal grandfather, Marcel.

Bartra was playing for the first time since Marcel’s death. After the match, the defender explained on social media that his tears were connected to the loss, describing the win as a Champions League tribute to his grandfather.
“Grandfather Marcel, this Champions League win is for you,” Bartra wrote. “Your star will guide me forever. I could not be prouder of you. Rest in peace.”
The Tarragona-born player also thanked those who had supported him and his family in recent days, saying their affection had meant a great deal during a difficult period.
Bartra added that, with his grandfather watching from above, he feels “stronger and more protected than ever” as Betis continue their European campaign.
