Marseille’s international break has brought another injury concern, with Himad Abdelli forced off while representing Algeria against Burundi on Tuesday.
The OM midfielder appeared to hurt his left ankle shortly before half-time in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. Abdelli left the pitch limping heavily and was helped towards the dressing room by two members of Algeria’s medical staff.
The incident followed a robust Burundi challenge and an awkward fall. Burundi, known as the Swallows, led 2-1 at the interval.
Second Marseille scare with Algeria
Abdelli is the second Marseille player to suffer a physical problem during Algeria’s current international fixtures.
Amine Gouiri had already returned to Marseille after reporting discomfort in his left quadriceps. The forward was affected during Algeria’s 3-1 win over Zambia on Friday evening.
There has been no indication yet of the seriousness of Abdelli’s ankle issue, but his departure before the break will be closely monitored by Marseille as the Ligue 1 campaign resumes.
