In Florence, Franco Mastantuono has found the change of scene he needed. The 19-year-old Real Madrid player, now on loan at Fiorentina, says life in Italy has helped him rediscover his best level, and he carried that renewed confidence into Argentina’s victory over Bolivia.
A new chapter between Florence and Argentina
- Mastantuono left Real Madrid on loan for Fiorentina during the past summer window, seeking regular rhythm away from the Spanish capital.
- After Argentina’s win against Bolivia, he explained that the move to Italy had been personally and professionally positive. “I have felt very well since going to Italy,” he said. “I changed my life a little, I have been feeling good and I am enjoying it a lot.”
- The midfielder also highlighted the freedom offered to him by Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni. “Scaloni gives me a lot of freedom on the pitch, and I am grateful for that,” Mastantuono said.
World Cup disappointment remains
There was also a more reflective note from the Real Madrid-owned player, who acknowledged the pain of missing out on Argentina’s World Cup squad.
“It is difficult to be left out of the list,” he said, while stressing that he continued to support both his teammates and the national side throughout the tournament. Argentina’s performances, he added, made the country proud after what he described as an excellent World Cup.
With a new international cycle beginning, Mastantuono believes he can earn an opportunity, but placed the collective above his own ambitions. “I feel good and perhaps I can have a chance,” he said. “Above all, I want to work for the national team.”
