Schalke 04 have retained Matthias Tillmann as chairman of the executive board after a unanimous supervisory board decision on Friday. The 42-year-old remains part of a three-person leadership group with Christina Rühl-Hamers and Frank Baumann.
Continuity at the top
The supervisory board sees Tillmann as the right figure for Schalke’s next stage of development. Chairman Axel Hefer credited him with helping the club regain a more positive outlook after taking on several urgent problems early in his tenure.

Tillmann said many people at Schalke had worked hard to give the club more scope to shape its future. He thanked Rühl-Hamers and Baumann, describing the board’s cooperation as close and built on trust.

The chairman said Schalke want to attract more supporters and secure strong commercial partners, creating the financial base to become consistently competitive on the sporting side.
He also stressed that the club must earn every further step. The Bundesliga remains a major challenge, while Schalke must better understand the needs of existing and potential partners in a competitive commercial market.
Tillmann said progress in those areas would not always be immediately visible, but was essential to long-term success. Schalke’s board now wants to use the opportunities created in recent years to build the club for the future.
