Arsenal’s League Cup night in Suffolk belonged to Max Dowman, whose two goals and assist carried Mikel Arteta’s side beyond Ipswich Town and into the last 16.
Max Dowman inspires Arsenal’s 4-2 win at Ipswich
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder delivered the standout performance at Portman Road on Tuesday as Arsenal won 4-2 in the third round of the 2026/27 English League Cup.
Dowman struck twice for the visitors and created Mikel Merino’s goal, while Noni Madueke also found the net. Ipswich responded through Mehmeti and Akpom, but Arsenal had enough attacking quality to secure their place in the next round.
It was a landmark senior outing for Dowman, who is already in his second professional season despite his age. He made 13 first-team appearances and scored once during 2025/26; this was the first time he had scored twice in an Arsenal match.
Last-16 place secured
Arsenal will learn their opponents in the round of 16 through the forthcoming draw. Arteta’s team return to league duty on Saturday, when Brighton visit as Arsenal continue their campaign at the top of the Premier League table.
